A new Men’s Sexual Health Clinic has opened in West Leederville. The M Clinic provides FREE and confidential Sexually Transmissible Infection (STI) testing and treatment services to same sex attracted men. The M Clinic has been set up to further increase people’s access to testing services. According to Trish Langdon, WAAC Executive Director, “The clinic is located in a neutral setting behind St John of God Hospital, making it accessible to all men who have sex with men.” The WA AIDS Council (WAAC) is enthusiastic about expanding their testing services. “Regular testing is one of the key ways of stopping the spread of STIs and we are keen to support the community to achieve this,” said Trish. The M Clinic employs a peer-based model which has been successful at increasing testing rates at other WAAC clinics. “The peer model is effective because it provides men with a non-judgemental opportunity to speak openly about sexual behaviour, which leads to regular and appropriate testing practices,” Ms Langdon said. Initially the M Clinic will provide 8 hours of treatment services by two of Australia’s leading Sexual Health Physicians. A male nurse will also provide peer based testing services two days per week. We aim to increase availability of both these services in the long term. The M Clinic is housed within a small medical facility at 4/24 McCourt Street, West Leederville (behind St John of God Hospital) which is central and easy to find with free parking. It is a walk-in clinic with no appointments necessary.
