The overall aim of the Mensline services is the wellbeing (physically, mentally or socially) of those who call the service. Mensline is a peer based information referral service (not a counselling service) for MSM (men who have sex with men), gay and bisexual men, and those questioning their sexuality.

This service not only relies on a referral list from which to direct callers but also on the knowledge and understanding of issues that the operators themselves have faced, as MSM, gay or bisexual men.

Issues faced by the Mensline operators are wide ranging: they have had callers looking to broadening their social circle, address sexual identity issues, seek places where to meet others for sexual interludes (legally), seek medical service and testing locations for HIV and STIs, requiring the services for legal practice, or just seeking information around sexual practices and sexual health (HIV and other STI’s concerns).

Mensline is manned three days a week (Friday, Saturday and Monday) for from 10am to 10pm. When the service is not running, all incoming inquiries go to the automated information system where you can leave a message. Mensline can also be accessed on line at www.projectx.net.au where information can be downloaded, or if necessary email request which is forwarded onto the Mensline coordinator to be addressed.
