Workshops in 2008 - Some old and some new

This year will see the education team running some of our tried and true workshops that are still drawing great numbers.  Men On Men, Nitty Gritties and Loving Our Way will all be running over the coming months

Joining these great workshops will be the launch of 3 new ones that will build on work that is introduced during Men On Men and Nitty Gritties in particular.  We have been fortunate that the workshops that we run have remained relevant and play an important role for men with same sex attractions – of course with a little tweaking to keep them current and up to date for those who attend and we have seen a need develop to launch some new ones.

Talk To Me is a communications based workshop that deals with issues around effective communication, listening skills and assertiveness to allow those attending to get a sense of how to be effective communicators in their life.

Talk To Me will launch in March and the first course will run for 6 weeks as a pilot with more to follow in the months ahead.

The Cruising workshop will give those attending a chance to understand cruising etiquette at a range of venues from saunas to the internet.  This new, innovative workshop will look at a range of important issues that impact on our health and well being.

ConversAsians is a workshop designed specifically for Asian same sex attracted men and will deal with issues on sexuality, self esteem, religion and assertiveness in a supportive peer run environment.

You can look forward to these three new workshops this year as well as our stable of usual workshops.  The other exciting feature for this year is the running of the Men On Men 2 retreat.  This 3 day residential retreat is for men who have completed at least one of our other workshops and looks at enhancing further issues raised at them.  From masculinity and identity to safe sex and relationships this 3 day intensive promises to give further insight into what being same sex attracted is like in 2008.

This year promises to be one full of many options for men who are attracted to other men and we look forward to seeing you at one of our workshops real soon.

  • Peer Support

Want to find out what it is like for other guys? Want to get support and information from guys who understand where you are coming from? The Project X Team from the Gay/MSM Program at the WA AIDS Council adopts a peer education model in our health promotion, outreach and education. All our programs are run by Gay/MSM guys and one to one peer support is also available.

  • Testing Services

Wanting to find out where you can get an anonymous confidential sexual health check? The Sauna Sexual Health Service and the WAAC HIV/STI STI service provide sexual health information testing for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and blood borne viruses (BBVs).

  • Workshops

We offer a variety of workshops run by gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men. The Workshops are about exploring our sexuality and making the most of our choices.
