Volunteer for Project X

The WA AIDS Council’s Gay/MSM Program (also known as the Project X Team) is now recruiting peer-based male volunteers to assist with the growing demand in various aspects of our community work. ‘MSM’ refers to men who have sex with men but do not identify as gay. Volunteer opportunities are available in the following areas:

project_x_volunteer_ad.jpgCyberreach Online Outreach

Volunteers will conduct CyberReach online-based outreach program which provides information and support around sexuality, safer sex and general health using chat rooms such as gaydar.com.au and gay.com. Instant messenger programs are also used. More about CyberReach

Mensline Telephone Outreach

Mensline volunteers are needed for this information and referral telephone service for MSMs.  Its primary role is to ensure the best sexual health outcomes for these men. The operators can give information about safe sex and safe places to meet other like minded men. More about Mensline

Workshop Facilitation

The Team also offers a variety of workshops for gay men, bisexual men and MSMs. The facilitator will co-run workshops which are about exploring our sexuality and making the most of our choice and connecting with other guys whilst optimising our health.

It is about the diversity of men, of life, love and sex. It is also about meeting new people and making friends. Most importantly, it is about staying safe. Some of our current workshops include Men On Men, Loving Our Way and Nitty Gritties. More  about  Workshops.

Safe Sex Sluts Outreach

The primary objective of Safe Sex Sluts is to inform gay men, bisexual men and MSMs (both HIV positive and negative) about sexual behaviours that reduce the risk of HIV transmission. The SSS’s main role is to ‘meet and greet’ patrons as they arrive at an event or venue, give out condom packs and provide occasional referrals if requested. The busiest time for the program will be during the Pride Festival.

If you are hanging out for the opportunity to volunteer some valuable time to the education work the Project X Team provides to our gay/MSM community, here is your chance. Full training will be provided and you will get the chance to work with some incredibly fun-tastic personalities!

Contact the Project X Team on 9482 0000 or email us at info@projectx.net.au. You can also click on the various Programs listed on this site for further information.
